Zuchinni relish burgers

Mmmm, zesty zucchini relish burgers!

I doubt if anyone needs a recipe for making hamburgers.  Prepare them the way you like them best then continue on with these ideas.

This idea works best if you butter and toast your buns (okay, HAMBURGER buns).  I used onion buns made with corn meal.  Toast only the bottom half as you will be toasting the top half with the completed sandwich.

Spread a thin layer of A1 sauce on the bottom bun, then place the burger atop that. Add a thin layer of very finely shaved sweet Vidalia onions then a layer each of aged cheddar, provolone and pepper jack cheese.

The final step is to get to know my friend Kayla and sweet-talk her into giving you a jar of her incredible zucchini relish.  Since it's her secret recipe I have to turn you loose at this point to find some on your own, or preferably find a recipe on the internet and make some.

Spoon the zucchini relish over the cheese and put both halves in your toaster oven until the cheese is melting and the zucchini relish is turning a golden brown.

Do not, I repeat, do NOT add the typical hamburger condiments like mustard, ketchup, etc.  It will overpower the subtle taste of the other ingredients.

If you're wondering why I placed the components in the order I did, here's why ... the relish is on top because it is the first thing your taste buds will recognize.  The three cheeses (you remember that movie, don't you?) will provide an introduction in your mouth to the onion-topped burger.  The onions were placed between the cheese and the burger to steam them a bit while you are toasting the sandwich.  The thin layer of A1 sauce is at the bottom to surprise your mouth with a little tang, but not until you have tasted all of the other parts.

Life’s good.
